High School Baseball

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Yesterday I was up at McCullough Park for a pair of baseball games. The Mounds View sophomore team was playing on one field, and the freshman on the adjacent field. This makes for an attractive photographic opportunity. Photos are on the web for the sophomores and freshman.

Hana on the Trail

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

When Doug and I hiked on the Deep Lake trail yesterday, Hana was with us. We ran into a dog that is occasionally out and about, a dog that might be part Rhodesian Ridgeback. The dog is somewhat bigger than Hana and they always enjoy playing together. And, I always enjoy the fact that this […]

Doug and Deep Lake

Monday, April 27th, 2009

This morning Doug, Hana and I went up to hike along Deep Lake. I was doing a bit of photography, and Doug was kind enough to help out by lugging my monopod. He also found the monopod useful for enhancing Hana’s behavior.

North Oaks Events

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Yesterday there were a pair of North Oaks events: the first ever North Oaks Community Service Recognition Ceremony and the Tom Watson Recognition Dinner. Both were held at the North Oaks Golf Club, and I was the official photographer for each event. The first event honored hundreds of volunteers in North Oaks, with special recognition […]

Sports Trifecta

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

This morning my brother and I went over to Minneapolis to watch part of the GetInGear 5K/10K. Then we went back to St. Paul, where we watched some women’s collegiate crew on Lake Phalen. The Gophers took 7 of 8 races from Kansas. After a lunch of Mexican food, we went to the University of […]

High School Baseball

Friday, April 24th, 2009

This afternoon I went up to McCullough Park to photograph some sophomore baseball. The day had been warm, but it was turning cold as the game started. Mounds View had built up a 4-0 lead, only to give one run back on a solo home run by Woodbury, when I headed for home. Better photos […]

High School Baseball

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

This afternoon Doug and I went over to McCullough Park so I could photograph some of the freshman baseball game against Cottage Grove. This was the first time that temperatures had reached 80 this year, so it provided Doug a good chance to bake in the bleachers. We didn’t stay for the entire game, but […]

Inner Fish

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

I recently finished reading Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body by Neil Shubin. This interesting book advances the idea that the structure of a wide variety of life forms, including humans, can be directly traced back to the structure of fishes. In the latter part of the book, […]

Idaho Trip

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

I was recently out in Idaho, not only to see my brother in Pocatello but also to photograph sage grouse in conjunction with the 7th annual Dubois Grouse Days. The photo opportunities were at the Crooked Creek Ranch, a Nature Conservancy property 20 miles west of Dubois. I was able to photograph grouse for three […]

Partial Aversion to Shaving

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

When I got back from San Diego in March, I decided that I was tired of shaving assorted nooks and crannies on my face. So for the past month, I have been shaving the easy areas and not shaving the rest. With a month’s growth, I can now appropriately assess the results – big step […]
