Definitely Winter

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Despite having 24 hours of temperatures above freezing on Christmas Day, winter is definitely here. The ice is quite solid now, and this week I started having Hana retrieve on Pleasant Lake. Today Pat came along on our hike, and I got a shot of the two of them out on the lake.

Today, just before lunch, Pat went out for some cross country skiing. I took these shots of her as she skied on the Long Marsh Trail, which goes right by our house:

An article in this morning’s Star Tribune notes that the 2010 World Championship Cheese Contest will be held March 16 – 18 at the Monona Terrace Center in Madison, Wisconsin. I am sure many of you are aware that this is the 28th biennial World Championship Cheese Contest, but you may not appreciate that while […]

Winter Appears To Have Arrived

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

The snow was accompanied by 20-30 mile per hour winds, and this morning the temperature was -4, the first sub-zero reading of the winter. This snow was […]

This morning I was down at the oval in Roseville to photograph speedskating. I was there for the finals of the 500 meter races, both women and men. These races were part of the 2009 American Cup II – Long Track Speedskating. I have recently had some problems with my primary camera body, so today […]
