bislagiatt

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

I was reading a book review this morning and I stumbled across the acronym bislagiatt. While it doesn’t flow smoothly off one’s tongue, I came to understand it is actually quite handy, because it stands for – but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Bandy

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

On Monday night I was down in Roseville to photograph a spirited bandy game between a pair of traditional Division I powers – the Minnesota Blades and Minneapolis Bandolier. The game ended in a 3-3 tie, as the Blades took advantage of their deeper bench. Bandy is an interesting game to watch, but, like many […]

How Did I Miss This?

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Yesterday Pat and I were over at the Walker for their annual show of the best of the British TV ads. They were quite entertaining, as always. While we were there, I became aware that the Walker is going to have a musical performance in late February called “Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then“. This brings […]

Still Winter in the Twin Cities?

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Recently there has been major attention to the snowstorm that paralyzed the East Coast and deposited snow for the first time in decades in areas of the south. Thus, one might ask, is it still winter in the Twin Cities? Here are a few shots from this morning; you make up your own mind. Pat […]

Dave Barry recommends that you take the time to locate and purchase strings of Christmas lights that have been presnarled at the factory 😉

Boston Bobby

Saturday, December 25th, 2010

For Christmas Fabby sent me a bobble body, depicting Bobby Orr’s Stanley Cup winning overtime goal from 1970. Just as Bobby was shooting the puck past legendary goalie Glenn Hall to clinch the cup, he was tripped by Blues defenseman Noel Picard, sending Bobby flying through the air, where an alert photographer captured an iconic […]

Lightning Strikes Twice

Saturday, December 25th, 2010

This morning’s Star Tribune reports that, with 33.4 inches of snow so far this month, 2010 now officially has the snowiest December on record. Some might note that 1969 had 33.2 inches, so the claim on the record is a trifle marginal. But, even though there is no snow expected in the next several days, […]

Stick To Your Ribs

Friday, December 24th, 2010

A couple nights ago, Pat and I made shrimp & grits. Being somewhat unclear on the proportions, we ended up with a lot of grits leftover. Last night I made my legendary corn dip. With only Pat and I here for the corn dip, there was plenty leftover. Today, for lunch, I warmed up a […]

Atomic Tumbleweeds

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

Today’s Wall Street Journal had a front page article on radioactive critters. The article focuses on the ongoing cleanup of the Hanford nuclear site in Washington, an effort that has already cost $30 billion. Occasionally radioactive droppings are discovered from rabbits or mice, which then leads to a search not only for the animals but […]

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

This has certainly started out to be a serious winter here in the Twin Cities. But, it could be worse. The following sentence from a Los Angeles Times article about the recent major rainstorms in Southern California caught my eye: At one point, she saw a neighbor running down the road, with a huge boulder […]
