TV News

This morning the NY Times had an Op-Ed piece by Frederick Barthelme, a professor of English at the University of Southern Mississippi titled “Mississippi’s Morning After”. He started out talking about how TV folks are infatuated with hurricanes, and reviewing the stylized ways they cover storms. I liked the part where he wrote:

“Lots of water is good, too, up to your ankles, up to your knees. With Hurricane Katrina, there was some ABC guy in New Orleans who was using himself as a human measuring stick. Tuesday night he was knee-high in water on Canal Street. Wednesday he was chest-high. Soon, if we are lucky, he will disappear altogether.”
